Students move into St Joseph’s House

AMA are glad to see the refurbished former convent St Joseph’s House, in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh complete and occupied by Edinburgh University Students, in a new 230 bedroom student housing project by S1 Developments.

The former St Joseph’s Convent and latterly care home operated by ‘The Little Sisters of the Poor’ is a Category C Listed Building which was upgraded to meet current technical standards. There was a full facade restoration to the existing sandstone, new slates to the roof and secondary glazing to retain the original sash and case windows.

Three additional new build blocks were designed to replace former mid 20th century outbuildings to the southern, eastern and western boundaries of the site, creating a communal courtyard with the old two-storey Chapel acting as a charismatic focal point.
